Cynthia Mary Richards

October 22, 1916 - May 6, 2011


Cynthia Richards, longtime resident of Williams Lake, passed away May 6th, 2011 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Armstrong, BC where she had been a resident for the past three years. She is survived by her children: Dennis Richards (Phyllis) of Rogersville, Alabama; Rene Gutyan (Paul) of Enderby, BC; Judy Wheeler (Ross) of Salmon Arm, BC and Bob Richards (Carol) of Kamloops, BC. Cynthia had 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and much extended family. She was predeceased in 2002 by Bert, her husband of 67 years.

Cynthia and Bert met and married in Forest Grove, BC in 1935, moving to Osoyoos in 1947, where they raised their children. Cynthia joined the Women’s Institute early in her marriage and became a lifetime member belonging for over 60 years.

In 1966 they moved to Williams Lake where she and Bert joined the Good Sam Club and she became provincial director. She also enjoyed writing a column called “Of Cauliflowers and Queens” for the local newspaper. Many residents remember her as the first person they met when they moved to Williams Lake as Cynthia was the Lake Town’s first Welcome Wagon Hostess.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, May 12th at the All Saints Anglican Church, 3205 - 27th Street, Vernon, BC. In lieu of flowers the family asks you make a donation to a charity of your choice.
