The family of Cristina (Lita) Kromhout is sad to announce her passing after a courageous long battle with cancer.
Lita is the first-born of 11 siblings, born and raised in the Philippines. She is survived by a brother in Florida, a brother and two sisters in Manila. Lita came to Williams Lake in 1969, where she met her future husband, Bernie. They were married in 1970 and had two sons: Steven, born in 1971 and Eric, born in 1973. We will all miss her terribly, especially her four grandchildren (Amanda, age 18, Nathan, age 15, and the twins, Elena and Brandon, age 11)
One has to admire Lita's adaptability, coming to a new culture from a large city to a very small town and starting a new life away from relatives and old friends. It was not long before she had a whole circle of new friends in town, including many in the Philippine and Chinese communities.
Lita worked at the Royal Bank until Steven was born and then became a wonderful stay-at-home mother for many years. Later when the boys were older she helped out at the Sacred Heart Preschool. She was also active in the Catholic Women's League and sang in the church choir for many years. Lita also enjoyed hosting many parties at our home over the years. An avid gardener, our yard was always full of flowers in the summer and the living room and window sills full of potted plants. Lita also loved to travel both in Canada, the States, and overseas (Philippines, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, India, Brunei, Malasia, Germany, Holland, Belgium). Her outgoing personality resulted in friendships all over the world!
Viewing and prayers will be at Sacred Heart Church, Monday, March 16 at 7:00 pm. Her funeral will be Tuesday, March 17 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, followed by a reception in the church basement.
In lieu of flowers, Lita would like people to consider a donation to The Hough Memorial Cancer Society.
