In the presence of family, Beverley Saugstad passed away as she lived, with dignity and grace at the Williams Lake Hospital. Beverley was pre-deceased by her husband Stener in 1995 and leaves behind her children Randy (Christy), Greg (Wendy), Evan (Karen) and Murray, six grandchildren (Shane, Brad, Kristin, Kirby, Rebecca and Jacclyn) and 21 great grandchildren. Born in Bella Coola, BC at the ‘old townsite’ to Alger and Olive Brynildsen, Beverley was the eldest of three children and leaves behind brother Terry (Wendy) and nieces Shelly and Tanya (predeceased) and Lloyd (predeceased), his wife Faye, and nephew Kelly and niece Dawn. Beverley’s education included attending high school in Cloverdale and completing her education at Normal School there, where she graduated with a Teaching Certificate. Returning to the Bella Coola Valley, she married Stener in 1949 and began her long teaching career in the Valley until her retirement in 1983. Her boys were all taught by her at some point and all found it difficult to avoid homework. After retirement, Beverley remained active as the chairperson with the BC Property Assessment Review, a board member with the Bella Coola Consumer’s Co-op, involvement with School District #49 administration, and a long standing member with the Sons of Norway Lodge. She will be remembered as a very independent person whom lived a long and active life at her home in Hagensborg, BC. Her boys and their activities always remained her greatest interest. A celebration of her life is planned for Sunday, May 21, 2017 with a gravesite service at the Hagensborg Cemetery, followed by a picnic gathering for all at the Big Rock near Stuie, BC, which was a special place for Beverley as the rare Fairy Slippers bloom there at that time.
