Ashley “Ash” Austin

March 31, 1933 - July 8, 2011

Ash passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his wife Helen and daughter Wendy. He died on the same day as his father Percy Austin - July 8, 1979. He will be greatly missed by his wife, daughter (Dan), grandsons Jakob and Jared, his brother Ron (De Dee) of Kelowna, his sister Olive (Larry),

and brother Bill (Ann), sister-in-law Lois of Summerland, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers Roger in 2006 and Ivan in 2008.

Ash was born in Suffield, Que., in “the house of the Lord” as he would like to say. The neighbors home that he was born in were named Lord.

Ashley’s family moved from Quebec to Summerland in August 1946. Ashley worked and lived in Summerland for 61 years. He worked for Barkwills Cannery from 1955 to 1980. It was here that he met his wife and they were married for forty-eight years. He then was employed by Milne Cannery from 1980 to 1983. After the canneries closed he went to work at the Summerland Rental Centre driving septic truck. He was a dependable, hard working man who always gave of himself to his work and family. Ash retired at age sixty-five. He loved to fly fish and was an avid gardener. Ash and his wife moved to Williams Lake in 2007 to be near their daughter and her family.

The family sends gratitude to the staff and caregivers, doctors, nurses, ambulance crew and hospice staff for the compassion they showed to us over the past few years. No service by request. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of B.C.

There will always be heartache and many silent tears but we have our precious memories of the days when you were here and with the love that’s in our hearts you will walk with us forever.

With love your family.
