Anna Marcella Stuart, affectionately known as Marcella or Ma, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024, at the remarkable age of 100. Born on November 11, 1924, in Edgerton, Alberta, Marcella lived a life defined by love, and resilience.
Marcella was predeceased by her husband, Harold Stuart, as well as her children Kathleen, Sheila, Michael, and William (Butch). Despite these profound losses, her unwavering spirit carried her through, and her love for family remained steadfast. She leaves behind four children to honor her memory and carry forward her legacy: Jimmy (Two-Shoes) and Carole Stuart of Williams Lake, Anne Sheehan and her husband Paul of Edmonton, Christina (Suzy) Burns and her partner Peter Gardner of Williams Lake, and Charles Stuart of Williams Lake.
Marcella was the matriarch of a large family. She was a mother of eight, grandmother of 14, great-grandmother of 27, and great-great-grandmother of two. Marcella's family tree is as vibrant and enduring as the gardens she so lovingly tended. Her green thumb was legendary, her needlework—whether quilting, knitting, or crocheting—was impeccable, and her culinary talents made every gathering a feast of comfort and connection.
Marcella married Harold in 1945, and together they built a life in Redstone, British Columbia, where she ran the store and post office while raising her children. Her industrious spirit and gentle heart made her well known in the community and an irreplaceable presence in the lives of those that loved her.
Though small in stature, Marcella's impact was monumental. She inspired generations with her creativity, dedication, and quiet strength, leaving a legacy that will continue to flourish in the lives of her family.
A celebration of Marcella's incredible life will be held in the warmer weather of 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
