Youth charged in machete attack

A Kamloops youth is facing serious charges after being arrested in connection with a violent Easter weekend attack on the North Shore.

The 15-year-old boy was arrested in Anahim Lake, near Williams Lake, on Sunday, May 1, after being linked to an April 23 machete attack that sent two 18-year-old men to hospital.

The suspect, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has since been charged with aggravated assault.

The machete attack, which took place at about 10:30 p.m. in the area of 11th Street and Tranquille Road, sent one victim to hospital in critical condition and left another with slash wounds to his arm.

The condition of the victim who suffered more serious injuries has since been upgraded to serious but stable.

The suspect, who was released into the care of family members, is slated to make his first court appearance on May 19.
