A 14-year old was apprehended by police following an attempted theft from a carport on Litzenburg Crescent Wednesday morning.

The Williams Lake RCMP say that at about 6 a.m., a resident on Litzenburg Crescent exited his home to discover two youth in the process of stealing his ATV from his carport.

The two youth fled and the alert resident gave chase. After a short distance, he caught up and was able to retrieve his property.

After a brief scuffle, the resident called 911. Police attended a few moments later and, in the near vicinity, apprehended one of the suspects. The other escaped.

The RCMP say the 14-year-old youth who was apprehended is known to police for property-related offences.

The Williams Lake detachment is continuing its investigation and is looking to see if any past incidents are related.

Police say that over the past several weeks, there has been an increase in thefts and property crimes in and around the Second and Third Avenue North neighbourhood.

Police remind residents to keep property secured by locking vehicles, garages, sheds, and houses.

Anyone who sees anything suspicious is asked to call the RCMP or 911 immediately.
