Woman dies in Highway 20 vehicle rollover

A woman from Redstone Reserve died and a man from the same community is in critical condition after a vehicle rollover on Highway 20.

A woman from Redstone Reserve has died and a man from the same community is in critical condition following a single vehicle rollover on Highway 20 Friday afternoon.

Alexis Creek RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle collision at about 3:24 p.m. west of Alexis Creek near the intersection of Chilanko Forks Loop and Highway 20 where an eastbound 2004 Ford Mustang crossed the centre line and entered the westbound ditch which caused the vehicle to roll, stated senior media relations officer RCMP Staff Sgt. Rob Vermeulen.

"The two occupants of the vehicle were both ejected. A 33-year-old female resident of the nearby Redstone Reserve was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor who had arrived to provide assistance. The second occupant, a 39-year-old male from the Redstone Reserve sustained serious injuries in the collision."

Vermeulen said the male was airlifted by BC Ambulance Helicopter to hospital where he was listed in critical but stable condition with undetermined injuries.

An RCMP collision analyst examined the scene along with Williams Lake RCMP Traffic Services. The cause of the collision is still being investigated. Road conditions at the time were good with dry highways and good visibility.
