The 51-year-old female has been charged with arson after setting several small grass fires along Highway 97 on Monday afternoon.

A 51-year-old female has been charged with arson after setting several small grass fires along Highway 97 on Monday afternoon.

"She will be appearing in court today," Williams Lake RCMP Sgt. Rick LeBeuf said Tuesday morning.

At around 4 p.m. Monday afternoon the Williams Lake Fire Department responded to the fires which were burning directly below the highway between Bob Paterson Homes and the Husky Station.

The fires were put out promptly, but could have spread quickly because conditions remain dry in the region.

Witnesses saw the woman walking along setting the fires and were able to provide a description, Fire Chief Des Webster said.
