Williams Lake RCMP investigate possible shooting

Williams Lake RCMP appear to be dealing with the first major crime of 2016 just two days into the new year.

Williams Lake RCMP appear to be dealing with the first major crime of 2016 just two days into the new year.

A portion of Mackenzie Avenue has been blocked off – between Boundary Street and Maple Street – since late afternoon Saturday and will remain closed throughout much of the day Sunday as police investigate a serious incident which occurred in or near one of the homes in the area.

According to a passerby at one of the roadblocks Saturday evening, residents heard what at first was thought to be a series of fire crackers going off before seeing vehicles flee the neighbourhood.

Police have not confirmed there has been a shooting, however, members of the RCMP’s North District Major Crime Unit arrived in the city early Sunday morning to oversee the investigation.

RCMP representatives said they will not be commenting on the case until later today or even possibly Monday morning.

This incident comes on the one-year anniversary of the murder of 22-year-old Jesse (Delmer) Frank of Williams Lake, whose body was discovered on the ice under the Rudy Johnson Bridge Friday, Jan. 2, 2015.
