Williams Lake pedestrian seriously injured in Kelowna crash

A 90-year-old Williams Lake man suffered serious injuries Wednesday afternoon when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the highway.

A 90-year-old Williams Lake man suffered serious injuries Wednesday afternoon when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the Highway 97 at Daimler Road in Kelowna.

At 3:24 p.m. on Jan. 21, the West Kelowna RCMP responded to the scene of the collision.

According to witnesses, the man was attempting to cross the highway against a red light when he was struck by a southbound Hyundai, driven by a 50-year-old West Kelowna woman.

"The investigation suggests the driver was proceeding on a green light in the right-hand lane when the collision occurred, and was unable to see the man until it was too late," the RCMP said.

The elderly pedestrian suffered significant, serious non-life threatening injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital in stable condition.

No charges against the driver are anticipated, the RCMP noted, adding alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
