A Williams Lake man has passed away following a collision in Savona, about 30 minutes west of Kamloops, Friday night.

The Kamloops RCMP Traffic Services says the man succumbed to his injuries on Saturday night.

Police said a GMC pickup truck collided with the man's Yamaha bike after the truck pulled into an intersection on Savona Access Road on Friday evening, July 8, at about 7 p.m.

According to witnesses, the rider braked hard, forcing the bike to skid and slam into the driver’s door.

The motorcycle burst into flames, pinning the rider underneath the wreckage.

The 24-year-old rider from Williams Lake was airlifted to hospital, suffering from extensive second- and third-degree burns to his body.

Police note alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors, adding weather conditions were clear at the time of the crash.

However, the  RCMP is considering charges against the driver of the pickup.
