Williams Lake mayor receives Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal

The latest recipient of a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in the Cariboo is Williams Lake Mayor Kerry Cook.

The latest recipient of a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in the Cariboo is Williams Lake Mayor Kerry Cook.

Cariboo Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett presented the medal to Cook Tuesday at city hall chambers, advising Cook had been nominated for the award by her peers at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

“The medal is being given to you to honour the contribution you have made to your city and all of Canada,” Barnett said to Cook. “Your peers in local government across the country admire your accomplishments as a community leader and congratulate you on earning this prestigious award.”

Barnett said the FCM commended Cook’s efforts to make Williams Lake a safer place to live, and the important role that municipalities and their elected leaders play in ensuring prosperity and a high quality of life.

“We appreciate your municipality’s association with FCM and its support of strong communities and good government in partnership with other provincial leaders, federal and territorial governments, your municipality is helping build a prosperous future for your community and all Canadians,” Barnett read from a statement.

During the celebrations 60,000 Canadians have and will receive the medals.
