Two Williams Lake citizens were presented certificates of merit from Mayor Walt Cobb during city council’s regular meeting Tuesday.

Tyleen Scaiano was honoured for her wrestling achievements.

The Grade 9 Lake City secondary’s North Fraser Rapids team member won a gold medal in the 46-kilogram Grade 9/10 division at the National Wrestling Lutte Championships in Windsor, Ont. from April 6-9.

Prior to competing at nationals, she won a silver medal in Salmon Arm at the 2017 provincial wrestling championships on March 3-4..

“It is my honour to present Tyleen with this certificate of merit on behalf of city council of Williams Lake for her outstanding efforts in promoting Williams Lake across Canada and internationally through her efforts in the sport of wrestling,” Cobb said.

“She’s pretty little to be a wrestler,” Cobb added as he gave Tyleen the certificate.

Cobb also presented a certificate of merit to dentist Rudy Wassenaar of Williams Lake Smiles.

“Rudy is being honoured for promoting Williams Lake across Canada and internationally through his expertise in implant dentistry,” Cobb said.

Two years ago, Wassenaar was named a Diplomate in Implant Dentistry by the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry and on average installs 200 implants a year with patients coming from all over B.C. Z
