Williams Lake Fire Department new recruits, service awards presented at city hall

The department will be hosting an open house Saturday, June 3

Williams Lake city council had the opportunity to meet the new recruit paid-on-call members of the Williams Lake Fire Department on Tuesday, May 16.

During the regular council meeting, fire chief Evan Dean introduced them as well as some members who were acknowledged for years of service.

Dean said he was humbled to share the accomplishments of the group at city hall chambers as well as the entire membership with council and the community.

Joining the fire department recently were Quinton Boyce, Jessica Friesen, Kait Houley, Dennis Lacombe, Eswar Mangala, Cody Nunn, Jordan Siemens and Jessica Sutherland.

Members acknowledged for their years of service were five years of service Braden Fornier, 1,040 calls attended, Cory Holm, 500 calls, Brad Tomelin, 476 calls, Jacob Weigensberg, 532 calls, and Kristopher Wilk, 531 calls.

For 10 years of service Steven Doherty, 1,152 calls, 15 years of service Lt. Trevor Stockdale, 2,032 calls and for 30 years of service Dereck Sulentich who has attended 2,071 calls.

Dean said previously Sulentich was presented with a medal and certificate of recognition from the Governor General of Canada.

“You people sacrifice yourself, and your families’ lives, to save us and make sure our lives are safe,” said Mayor Surinderpal Rathor, adding on behalf of whole community, he appreciated their efforts.
