All recent wildfires in the Cariboo region have been contained or extinguished by BC Wildfire Service Crews, the Cariboo Fire Centre said Wednesday.
The Nazko fire located three kilometres south of the community of Nazko has 30 firefighters continuing their fire suppression efforts with the support of a helicopter.
The fire near the Bonaparte River recreation site, 15 kilometres southeast of 70 Mile House, is in the mop-up stage, with 22 firefighters looking for and extinguishing any remaining hot spots.
All other fires in the Cariboo Fire Centre are either extinguished or in the patrol stage at this time.
Since March 1, 2016, the Cariboo Fire Centre has responded to 39 wildfires — all of them caused by people.
The BC Wildfire Service reminds the public that Category 2 and 3 open fires have been prohibited since April 4, 2016 throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre.
This means that all open burning other than campfires is prohibited.
