Incumbent city councillor Laurie Walters is running again.
She announced her intention to seek a third term earlier this week.
With deep roots in the community, Walters said she is committed to carrying out important community projects.
“I love Williams Lake and I love my job as a city councillor,” Walters said.
“I put my heart into it and take my job very seriously.
“There are a lot of great initiatives that this council is currently working on and I want to be around the table over the next four years to see these initiatives and new projects through.”
One of the most important things Walters has learned in the past six years is the value of policy and process in municipal government, she said.
“It’s what ensures the decision making process is effective and results oriented.”
She said Williams Lake is going through a major shift with its lumber and mining industries and in order to move forward, the community needs to be prepared for this shift and look towards other important cogs in the wheel such as tourism which brings new sources of revenue.
The community also needs to support a multitude of local businesses, she noted.
“I am determined to continue to work with the BIA to further enhance Williams Lake’s downtown as the heart of our community,” Walters said.
“These initiatives will draw people to live and invest in our city”.
Thinking regionally is crucial because working together this brings benefits to the city, she added.
“As a result, I am connected provincially, relationships that can only be developed over time and which provide a network of resources outside of our community’s limitations.”
While on council Walters has chaired community services. She held the position of Co-Chair for the Pool Task force committee and currently is an active member on the communications working group for the pool referendum with a goal to ensure the right information is available and getting out to citizens so that they can make an informed decision about the future of the Sam Ketcham pool when going to the polls on Nov 15.
