With a week left until May 9’s general voting day advance polls continue to be busy in the region.

At the advance poll held on April 29, 1098 people voted in the Cariboo-Chilcotin riding and 850 people voted in Cariboo North.

On April 30, 615 people voted in the Cariboo-Chilcotin riding and 627 voted in Cariboo North.

“It’s gone smoothly with no lineups,” said Cariboo-Chilcotin Deputy District Electoral Officer Linda Isfeld Tuesday. “The advance polls have been a great opportunity for voters to get out and vote.”

There are four more opportunities for people to vote in advance on May 3, 4, 5 and 6 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Cariboo-Chilcotin voters can vote at the Elks Hall at 98 First Ave. South in the lakecity and in 100 Mile House at the 100 Mile Curling Club.

For Cariboo North voters the advance polls take place at the Quesnel and District Senior Centre and in Williams Lake at the Ramada Inn Convention Centre.

Voters are encouraged to bring their Where to Vote cards that they should have received in the mail.

To be eligible, voters must be 18 years of age or older on May 9, be a Canadian citizen and a resident of B.C. for the last six months.

Voters must prove their identity and residential address with one piece of photo Government identification, certificate of First Nation status or two documents that contain the voter’s name, one with an address.

People needing a ride to vote in Williams Lake are encouraged to contact either Liberal candidate Donna Barnett’s campaign office at 250-398-5100 or NDP candidate Sally Watson’s campaign office at 250-392-3404.
