It’s tax time again and the Williams Lake and District community volunteer income tax program is seeking volunteers to complete tax returns.

Individuals interested in helping others with their returns are being sought for training Feb. 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Pioneer Complex.

“Anybody that is interested they can call me. This program is to help the citizens of Canada who can not afford to pay professional people to get their income taxes done,” says Surinderpal Rathor, program co-ordinator.

Rathor says he needs to know how many volunteers are interested by today.

He encourages individuals to contact him at 250-398-5222 or e-mail at spsrathor@hotmail.com.

The training program teaches new volunteers how to complete tax returns as well as updates individuals on the changes to income tax over the last year.

Individuals over a certain income threshold, those who have filed for bankruptcy or estate tax returns are not taken as a part of the program.

“Income tax returns are very important. It is part of our duty as a Canadian citizen. It is our responsibility to do it,” Rathor says of filing a return.
