Visitor Centre Network celebrates 30 years

Thirty years ago tourist booth operators came together with the Ministry of Tourism to form the Visitor Centre Network Council, a milestone Williams Lake and District Chamber of Commerce executive director Claudia Blair is proud of.

“The standards we have now in our visitor centres across the province were set by the network council,” Blair said. “I travel all over the world and there is nothing like what we have. We can call each other up and ask for maps, or guides if we’ve run out of them because everyone carries them.”

On Wednesday, Nov. 16, the Tourism Discovery Centre will host a special event to mark the 30-year anniversary at 2 p.m.

Dignitaries invited to participate include Mayor Cobb and council members, and both MLA North Coralee Oakes and Cariboo Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett.  Others that are joining us at this time will be our Chamber Executives, CCCTA CEO Amy Thacker and Patty Morgan Manager of the Quesnel Visitor Centre.
