Visitors met at the First Nations Gathering Place at Thompson Rivers University on May 24 for the launch of a unique video and a storybook - a ‘Stories of our Past.’
The material was created to help nurses provide culturally safe care for Secwepemc (Shuswap) elders experiencing memory loss or dementia.
The video features interviews with elders from a range of Shuswap communities, sharing their thoughts on aging and dementia.
Elders who took part in the research project requested that the video and the book be used to teach Secwepemc children and youth about memory loss and aging.
The book is called A Good Day with Kye7e and Me and the video is called Remembering Our Way Forward.
