A male is in custody after a break and enter and theft from a car at the Stampede Grounds Monday afternoon.
At about 3:30 p.m. the Williams Lake RCMP responded to a theft from auto complaint at the Stampede Grounds.
“The spirited complainant observed a male break into her car by smashing the window,” says Staff Sgt. Warren Brown, Williams Lake RCMP detachment commander in a news release.
As the suspect was rummaging through her car, the complainant confronted the suspect, which led to a foot chase.
“Perhaps out of fear, the suspect dropped the stolen property and fled the scene,” Brown says, adding that thanks to a detailed description of the suspect provided by the complainant, the RCMP located him a short distance away.
The suspect was arrested and found to be in possession of stolen property from a different location at the Stampede Grounds.
The suspect is not from Williams Lake; however, he is very well known to police in different areas of the province and Alberta.
The Williams Lake RCMP will recommend charges of break and enter, theft under $5,000, and possession of stolen property under $5,000.
The RCMP will also request that he be held in custody.
Police urge people to report suspicious circumstances and activities.
