Kurtis Justin Billy is facing charges after allegedly leading the RCMP on a vehicle chase Wednesday.

In the early morning hours of Sept. 28, the Williams Lake RCMP received a complaint of a vehicle stolen from the Cariboo Memorial Hospital parking lot. At 6:30 a.m. an officer spotted the vehicle on Mackenzie Avenue near Boundary Street; however, when the officer turned on his emergency lights the vehicle sped away through the city, eventually losing control and crashing into a yard at the corner of Comer Street and Fourth Avenue.

The suspect fled on foot. At 9:30 a.m. the suspect was spotted near Marie Sharpe elementary school. He again fled but after a brief search utilizing the police dog, the suspect was located hiding under the steps of a residence near Cameron Street and Second Avenue.

Billy is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, obstruction of a peace officer and breach of recognizance. At the time of his arrest Billy was bound by a recognizance not to be within 25 kilometres of Williams Lake. Billy has been held in custody pending further court appearances.
