The city has purchased a beach sweeper for Scout Island after being impressed with it during a demonstration Wednesday, confirmed Mayor Walt Cobb Thursday.
Original story
Kendrick Equipment from Delta is in Williams Lake today demonstrating a beach sweeper for the city to consider purchasing to keep the beach clean at Scout Island.
"We sell about three or four a year to communities for beaches like this, golf courses, riding arenas and volleyball courts," said sales manager Dave Marshall, noting the most recent community to purchase one was Harrison Hot Springs.
The equipment works like a lawn mower, in the sense someone walks behind and pushes it, but it can pick up broken glass and bottle caps, in addition to goose poop.
"It's all about cleanliness, safety and health," Marshall said.
If the city is happy with its performance of the sweeper it will be purchased because city council has already approved the $23,000 purchase at a regular meeting in June.
