Electric vehicles have increased in popularity in the last few years, leading to the need for more charging stations, particularly close to highways.

Thompson Rivers University installed a basic charging station at its Williams Lake campus in 2013 and recently replaced it with an upgraded level 2 Sun Country Highway charge station.

This upgrade provides the maximum Level 2 charge rate that current electric vehicles can accept (80 amps), thus reducing the time needed for vehicles to recharge before continuing their journey.

The previously-installed charge station will continue to provide a backup option to the new charge station. It also remains perfectly well-suited for charging smaller EV’s that are unable to take advantage of the higher current available from the new station.

The new, higher powered, charging station is now the best charging option for electric vehicle drivers on the Highway 97 corridor.
