Patrick Davies is a recent graduate of Calgary’s Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) and has come to Williams Lake to serve as the Tribune’s new arts and culture reporter.

Born on Prince Edward Island and raised in Edmonton with my three younger brothers, I’ve always been an avid lover of the written word and art in all its many forms. Be it literature, visual arts, acting, filmography or music, I’ve dabbled in them all.

Travel has always been a love of mine; from summer trips back home to the Island to exciting adventures to Southeast Asia and Cuba. With camera in hand, thanks to the encouragement of my grandmother, I documented these unique experiences and journeys that helped shape me as a person and storyteller.

I first started writing about arts and entertainment in high school, as part of Blessed Oscar Romero’s Cappies Team, a theatrical review team, of which I became the lead critic in my Grade 11 and 12 years. Reviewing high school theatre was my first experience with newspaper, through the program’s partnership with the Edmonton Journal.

I attended SAIT in Calgary straight after high school, where I earned my Journalism Diploma. I went on to hone my skills as an intern at the Spruce Grove Examiner, covering local events like the town of Stony Plain’s Summer Sessions, a weekly concert series.

Williams Lake offers my first real opportunity to cut my teeth in the journalism world. My previous experiences have shown that small towns always have a lot to offer and Williams Lake seems to be bursting with stories worth telling.

As an arts and culture reporter, I hope to give the various unique cultural and artistic sides of the town the spotlight they deserve. I encourage and welcome anyone who knows of upcoming events, groups or artists within the community we should highlight, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

When I’m not writing or covering the news I enjoy hiking, swimming, gaming and cooking at home. I am a big fan of Star Wars, The First Law series by Joe Abercrombie, world music and the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Game by CD Projekt Red.

I look forward to getting to know both this town and everyone who makes up the fabric of its unique culture.
