TNG purchases Kwaleen School

The Tsilhqot'in National Government is the new owner of the former Kwaleen Elementary School on South Lakeside Drive.

The Tsilhqot'in National Government is the new owner of the former Kwaleen Elementary School on South Lakeside Drive.

School District 27 trustees endorsed the sale of the school for $270,000 at their board meeting on Tuesday, March 29.

"We are excited," said TNG chair Chief Joe Alphonse. "We have outgrown our office spaces at the TNG building downtown and will be moving some of our offices to the school."

The purchase gives the TNG a sound facility in Williams Lake to hold meetings, offer training to community members, and provide space for youth to recreate because there's a soccer field, an outdoor rink and a gym, Alphonse said.

"The possibilities are endless. We jumped at the opportunity. Punky Lake Wilderness Society will be able to do activities there as well."
