Thompson Rivers University Williams Lake Campus will not see job action this week

Canadian Union of Public Employee strike will not affect Thompson Rivers University Williams Lake campus this week.

At the onset, the Canadian Union of Public Employee strike will not affect Thompson Rivers University Williams Lake campus.

" C.U.P.E. Local 4879 has chosen not to take strike action in Williams Lake this week, although things could change later on," CUPE union communication officer Dan Gawthrop says.

There are 15 full-time C.U.P.E. and 15 C.U.P.E. auxiliary employees working at TRU in Williams Lake.

The purpose of the strike is to try to get the universities back to the negotiation table.

"We're after a contract, not after an extended strike," Gawthrop says.

The union served strike notice Monday. It will take effect Thursday with job action at several universities around the province.
