Margetts Meats owner John Margetts received an early-morning phone call alerting him to a smash and grab at his Mackenzie Avenue business on Feb. 12.

Margetts Meats was victim to a break and enter early Sunday.

Owner John Margetts said he was notified at 4 a.m. Sunday of the incident by the RCMP, who had responded to the store’s alarm.

“They broke the glass on one of the front doors and then reached in to open the latch, Margetts said Tuesday. “We lost some Stampede Association money for our upcoming auction and dance.”

There were a few tickets stolen as well, but Margetts said that most of the tickets had already been sold.

The thieves did not steal any food as far as Margetts could tell.

“There were chocolate bars at the front and none of them were taken either,” he said, noting it was the first time the store had been broken into.

Police report the Laughing Loon was also broken into some time overnight on Feb. 10 and a substantial amount of alcohol was stolen.

Police are investigating both incidents.
