Theft suspects arrested

A prolific offender was among three arrested in relation to a theft from a Williams Lake business Sunday night.

Members of the Williams Lake RCMP responded to a report of a robbery at Halls N Herbs at about 5 p.m. after two men grabbed the cash register and fled as the owner was closing up business for the day.

Police located the suspect vehicle as it was fleeing the scene. However, the two men who were involved in the theft both fled on foot.

A 50-year-old female driver of the getaway vehicle was arrested in the vehicle, one man was located a short distance away by police, and the third man, who took off on foot into the woods near Signal Point, was tracked by the police service dog and taken into custody a short time later.

One of the men arrested was also wanted on seven other unrelated warrants at the time of the arrest. The second man is also well known to police for property related offenses. The driver, from Williams Lake, is currently on probation for property-related offenses.

All three were being held in custody pending a court appearance Monday.

The Williams Lake RCMP are thanking members of the public who called police with information that led to the apprehension of one of the men who fled into the woods. Constable Brad LeForte confirmed that it was the information of one of the callers that led the police to his last location — which provided a starting point for the police dog to begin a track.

As a result, the 38-year-old Williams Lake man, who ran a fair distance into the bush, was tracked and eventually apprehended for the offense and the seven outstanding warrants.
