Taseko Mines Limited is taking the federal government to court seeking damages related to the rejection of the proposed New Prosperity Mine.
The company announced Friday it has filed a civil claim in BC Supreme Court seeking damages in relation to the Feb. 25, 2014 decision concerning the multi-billion dollar gold-copper deposit project in the Cariboo region of B.C.
The lawsuit claims the Government of Canada and its agents failed to meet the legal duties owed to Taseko and in doing so they caused and continue to cause damages, expenses and loss to Taseko.
“Given the conduct of the Government of Canada and its agents we have no other choice but to defend the interests of our shareholders and to protect their assets,” said Taseko’s president and CEO Russell Hallbauer in a press release.
Taseko is being represented by John Hunter QC of Hunter Litigation Chambers.
