Williams Lake RCMP are searching for suspects after a house on Moon Avenue was hit twice with Molotov cocktails 90 minutes apart in the early morning hours Saturday.
Police were called to the first incident at approximately 2:06 a.m. after receiving a complaint from the residence that a bottle with possibly gas inside was thrown at the house.
Upon attending, police confirmed a Molotov cocktail had broken against the front basement window of the residence and melted the insect screen, but the liquid that had ignited was mostly on the ground.
According to police, occupants of the residence were actually sleeping just inside the window and heard the smash. No one was seen outside.
At approximately 3:34 a.m., the owner of the same residence called 9-1-1 to report an another more serious arson attempt at the home.
This was only approximately 90 minutes after the previous attempt and, according to police, was a significant threat to the safety of the homeowners.
"Fortunately, on both occasions, the fire was quickly contained and resulted in only minor damage; although the potential for loss of life and home was significant," stated a police press release.
The flaming gas penetrated the room and ignited some furniture and curtains. The homeowners acted quickly to remove the burning furniture out a side door.
Witnesses apparently observed suspects running west on Moon Avenue from the scene and get into a dark SUV, which then travelled north on Midnight Drive.
