Suspect on the loose following random violent attacks

A man suspected of two violent attacks last week appears to have struck again Sunday evening.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Del Byron said a man was assaulted by a suspect on a BMX bike while out walking in the 600 block of Second Avenue North just after 10 p.m.

The robber demanded the victim empty his pockets and, when he only pulled out some keys, the suspect punched the victim in the face before fleeing, Byron said.

The suspect is described as a white male with facial hair, wearing a blue and black plaid winter jacket, jeans and a black balaclava covering his head and face.

Last Wednesday a couple with a one-year-old child fought off a hammer-wielding intruder in their home in the 4000 block of Mackenzie Avenue at 10:48 a.m. while later that day, at about 6:30 p.m., a woman was violently attacked from behind while she was walking her dog along Second Avenue, also in the area of the 600 block.

In that case the victim was hit in the back of the head with what she believed to be a pipe, and was kicked in the face before the suspect fled on a black BMX bike.

At the time the victim told the Tribune she could see no reason for the unprovoked attack but did notice her lit cigarette was gone after the man left.

Byron said Tuesday he believes the incidents are related and requests the public contact police if they see anyone in the area matching that description.

Again, the suspect was described as riding a black BMX bike with black handle bars.

Victims have estimated he is about six feet tall and has longer brown hair wearing blue pants.
