Something for everyone at the Horsefly Winter Carnival coming up next weekend

The Horsefly Winter Carnival is beginning to take on a life of its own.

The Horsefly Winter Carnival is beginning to take on a life of its own.

Indoors and out there will be lots for families and adults to do at the carnival on Sunday, Jan. 30.

Bring your cross-country skis, your skills at board sawing, nail pounding, fire building, water boiling, and your talents for schmoozing and schmooing, states the poster created by the Horsefly Board of Trade which is sponsoring the carnival.

The fun starts at 11 a.m. in downtown Horsefly, where visitors can listen to the music or join in the singing around the bonfire that will be blazing all day.

This is a family affair, and there will be games and events suitable for all ages.

Special events for children include snow sculptures, races, games, and other snow fun.

Snow soccer, a scavenger hunt, ice sculpture judging, the Horsefly Iron Man, a Cross Country Ski Bum Poker Run, a community tug-o-war, and something called Schmoo Races are some of the events on the agenda.

Hot chocolate and lunch specials will be available from the Corner House Cafe.

The Horsefly Board of Trade is hoping winter doldrums will drive people out of their homes and into Horsefly with a competitive, fun filled-spirit, and make this first carnival a success.

Hopefully success will lead to the event becoming an annual attraction, so please feel welcome to visit our carnival, either as a spectator or a participant.

The bon fire will be fired up at 10 a.m. and be burning all day. Please come and join us.

On the Saturday night, Jan. 29, prior to the carnival the Anvil Pub will also be hosting an indoor golf putting tournament from 3 to 5 p.m. and an open mic night starting at 9 p.m.
