UPDATE: Fatal collision closes Highway 97 Sunday evening north of Williams Lake

One person has died and another was sent to hospital following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 97 north of Williams Lake.

Highway 97 was closed for several hours Sunday evening, June 4, due to the incident.

The collision occurred at Highway 97 and Kragbak Road, eight kilometres north of Wildwood at about 5:37 p.m., confirmed RCMP Monday.

“Sadly one person was deceased and another person take to hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening,” noted RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson, District Advisory NCO (Media Relations) North District.

Once flaggers were in place a detour on Mountain House Road was available for light traffic. The highway reopened at 2:32 a.m. Monday.

Witnesses on scene said the collision involved two vehicles, a pickup truck and a car. Impact to the vehicles was significant.

The collision prompted a response from several first responders, including air ambulance, added witnesses.
