Senior victim of home invasion

A senior living in the 400 block of Sixth Avenue North was the victim of a home invasion over the weekend.

At about 12:15 a.m. Saturday, March 19, several individuals knocked on the woman’s door, and when she opened it they forced their way inside the home, located between Williams Lake secondary and Cariboo Memorial Hospital, the Williams Lake RCMP say.

The woman was home alone at the time and was held captive while the suspects ransacked her residence.

Her son returned home while the suspects were still inside; he confronted the male and female suspects and was assaulted.

He received some minor injuries as a result; the woman was not injured. No weapons were produced in the invasion.  The suspects, say police, were not disguised and are described as of First Nations decent. They are believed to be in their early to mid 20s.

They fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and electronics.

Police are unsure whether they had a get-away vehicle. The detachment’s one tracking dog was not available at the time of the incident.

Police say it is believed that up to five individuals were involved in the home invasion. There are no suspects. However, police do have leads based on evidence found inside the home.

Cpl. Brian Evans encourages the public to be careful.

“Always be cautious when you get a knock on your door late at night,” he says. “Just be wary of who it might be. Don’t assume it’s who you expect its going to be. … If you’re not sure who is there call 911 and we’ll come and make sure everything is OK.”

Anyone who may have observed any suspicious people or activity near the scene of the crime, or anyone with information about those responsible is asked to call the Williams Lake RCMP at 250-393-6211 or Crimestoppers.
