A search is underway for a 24-year-old caucasian man who fell off the Rudy Johnson Bridge into the Fraser River just after midnight Wednesday.

Williams Lake RCMP Staff Sgt. Del Byron said the police were notified at 12:18 a.m. that a male was hanging out with three of his friends when he accidentally fell off the bridge.

"We've got the RCMP Kodiak plane coming to do a search from the air and Central Cariboo Search and Rescue has a jet boat they are putting into the water as we speak," Byron said.

South Cariboo Search and Rescue is also assisting with the search.

We'll post more information as it becomes available.
