School fundraising target of latest telephone scam

Police are warning of a tele-marketing scam involving unknown persons pretending to be fundraising for local schools.

The Williams Lake and Alexis Creek RCMP are warning of a possible tele-marketing scam involving unknown persons pretending to be representing schools in School District 27 and soliciting for fundraisers that are not legitimate.

The public should take every precaution not to divulge personal or financial information over the phone, despite how credible the person calling may sound, the RCMP said, urging the public to remember to always be diligent and protect themselves.

Anyone with knowledge of this offence that might assist with the ongoing investigation, or who knows who is committing these offences, is asked to please call the Williams Lake RCMP at 250- 392-6211, Alexis Creek RCMP at 250-394-4211 or Crime stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
