The shovels are ready for the Rotary Club of Williams Lake’s next set of plans for Boitanio Park.
Those plans include a paved pathway from the parking lot to the picnic shelter and from the shelter to the pathway in the park.
“It will make the area more wheelchair accessible,” Rotary Club member Walt Cobb told city council during its regular meeting Tuesday.
Cobb said the club will also celebrate its 50th anniversary in Williams Lake by installing an emblem garden in front of the picnic shelter, representing the Rotary logo.
Last February, the club requested permission from the city to install lights in the park, but because the city will need two years to finance its portion of the project — readying the electrical aspects to accommodate the lighting — the project will be put on hold.
In the meantime, several businesses and organizations in the community have said they will donate to the lighting project, Cobb told council, adding Rotarians continue to install new plants in the park that members care for on a regular basis.
