Retired police officers sworn in as RCMP reserve constables in Williams Lake

Three retired police officers are returning to serve the RCMP as Reserve Constables.

Three retired police officers are returning to serve the RCMP in Williams Lake and around the province if needed.

This time around, however, they will serve in the capacity  of Reserve Constables.

Williams Lake RCMP Insp. Jeff Pelley said Const. Rick Meaver, Cpl. Gordon Rutherford and Staff Sgt. John Dryden were recently sworn in.

While the three Reserve Constables will be based in Williams Lake, Pelley said they can also be called upon by other policing jurisdictions in the province where and when needed.

A Reserve Constable holds the same status as a sworn in police officer at the rank of Constable.

The rank permits the RCMP to utilize the Constables’ expertise and deploy them during resource gaps, transfers, leave, training and other specialized projects.

“I look forward to having these three members work within Williams Lake and the surrounding area,” Pelley said.

“It was an honour to swear these police officers in given their diverse background, experience and dedication to the community.

“These police officers bring a wide range of expertise and service that will serve the community well in addressing our strategic priorities, crime trends and continuing to enhance our policing successes.”

Dryden, Rutherford (photo below) and Meaver (bottom photo) each had 30 years of service or more from when they were serving with the RCMP prior to retirement.Pelley added.
