Darlene Head is trying to get something done about illegal dumping at the Colpit Road gravel pit, located off Dog Creek Road.
“There are burnt out cars, a burnt out 24-foot boat, even a freezer,” Darlene said Thursday, noting locals are also using the venue as a shooting range.
Darlene has lived on nearby Valleyview Drive for seven years and said many people recreate near the gravel pit, riding quads, snowmobiles and horse back.
“Sometimes we come down off the side on our quads and all of a sudden we hear gun shots because someone is there shooting targets,” she said.
Darlene has started a Facebook page — and hopes the community will come together to help clean up the mess.
“We will need some pickup trucks to haul stuff away and I’m not quite sure how we’ll get the burn out cars and boat out of there,” she said.
Dumping at the site has been a problem during the last four years and once the area is cleaned up, Darlene hopes some boulders can be put in place to prevent people being able to drive right into the gravel pit.
