Recycle at Canadian Tire Saturday

Canadian Tire owner Brian Stefan predicts this Saturday will be the “biggest ever recycling day in Williams Lake.”

Canadian Tire owner Brian Stefan predicts this Saturday will be the “biggest ever recycling day in Williams Lake.”

On that day residents are encouraged to bring in their tires on rims or off, used paint and electronics to the store off South Lakeside Drive for recycling.

Representatives for the agencies that recycle paint and electronics will also be on hand to provide more information and consumer education about how residents can go about recycling those products at their locations in Williams Lake.

Electronic recyclers will also be able to provide some information as to an upcoming expansion of the items they will accept.

Stefan says one of the challenges he faces as a retailer is customers who do not know where to take  products at the end of their life.

“I don’t think those two stewardships — paint and electronics — don’t advertise the way a retailer advertises,” he said, noting they could create an information vacuum.

Aside from the items residents can bring to Canadian Tire this Saturday, the business regularly recycles a range of battery products, compact fluorescent tubes and light bulbs and used motor oil. The Rotary club will also be on hand manning the barbecue and selling food items during the recycling event.
