The Alexis RCMP responded to the scene of a motor vehicle incident involving an aviation fuel tank truck about 20 kilometres west of the Puntzi Lake turnoff on Highway 20 Sunday evening.

Const. Kyle Skerkowski of the Alexis Creek RCMP told the Tribune the fuel tank truck was the only vehicle involved and the incident occurred at around 7 p.m.

“The driver had minor injuries and was the only occupant,” Skerkowski said Monday afternoon.

Norm Fallows, response section head for the Ministry of Environment’s environmental emergency program, said the truck belongs to Royal Pacific Petroleum out of Richmond and was carrying jet fuel

“Their operations manager responded from head office and arrived on site Monday,” Fallows said. “From what I understand is they retained a salvage contractor to offload the vehicle and a tow truck. We sent a staff person from Williams Lake to the site Monday.”

Some fuel spilled from a ruptured compartment that did lose the majority of its contents, but no waterways were effected and the fuel that did spill was contained to the immediate site, Fallows added.

“We are in contact with the responsible party for additional clean up requirements.”

Royal Pacific Petroleum declined comment.
