RCMP release more details on Monday's fatal Chimney Lake Road crash

More details have been released by the RCMP following the single vehicle fatal incident on Chimney Lake Road Monday.

More details have been released by the RCMP following the single vehicle fatal crash on Chimney Lake Road near Williams Lake.

Upon responding to the initial report of the incident at 1:30 a.m. Monday, the Williams Lake RCMP determined that the Dodge Ram pickup truck involved was stolen from Grand Prairie, Alta.

The suspects had replaced the truck’s license plate with a stolen one from Chetwynd, B.C.

It is believed that alcohol and excessive speed were factors in this incident, the RCMP said in a press release Tuesday.

A 22-year-old Williams Lake male was found deceased at the scene of the accident, while a 21-year-old passenger sustained serious injuries and is currently in critical condition.

A third passenger was arrested at the scene without incident.

The 21 year-old driver and one of the passengers fled on foot and stole a Toyota Tundra from a nearby residence.

After a brief pursuit and with assistance from police dog services, both males were apprehended and taken into custody.

After learning of their real identities, it was further determined that both males are from Alberta and the driver had outstanding warrants from that province.

Items found in the stolen truck were a .22 caliber firearm, a knife and brass knuckles.

Preliminary investigation reveals that this group of five males is also responsible for other property offences and various fraudulent activities in Williams Lake and surrounding areas.

The suspects' names and those of the deceased and injured will not be released at this time, the RCMP said.
