Police are crediting the efforts of multiple people for assisting after a motor vehicle crashed Thursday afternoon on the Chimney Valley Road.

“A vehicle crashed and caught fire, igniting a grass fire in the valley,” said Williams Lake RCMP Cpl. Matthew Shearer Friday. “With the relatively dry conditions, the fire took off across up the side hill. The folks that came upon the scene immediately stepped up and assisted the Williams Lake RCMP, the BC Wildfire team and the Chimney/Felker Lake Volunteer Fire Department.”

The injuries to the occupant in the vehicle were minimal as were the magnitude of the fire, Shearer added.

Williams Lake RCMP Officer In Charge, Insp. Jeff Pelley praised the team work of everyone involved.

“Working together to continue to make our community safer is so important and we are so very grateful to the community heroes in this case,” Pelley said. “We do not know all that helped, although you know who you are and we sincerely want to say thanks.”
