The RCMP Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services reminds people traveling this long holiday weekend to consider the following:

• Drinking or using drugs and driving is a bad idea, the carnage from this affects us all. There is always another way to get to where you need to go, taxi, bus or call a friend. One person injured or killed is too many.

• The use of a seat belt is mandatory and is the best safety device in an automobile. When worn correctly in conjunction with an airbag, the crash survival rate is as high as 95 per cent.

• Talking or texting while driving is extremely dangerous and results in far too many crashes, injuries and deaths.

Ask yourself if you would close your eyes driving at 100 km/hr for up to seven seconds. The answer is probably no.

• Police will be conducting increased enforcement this weekend.
