Ranch Challenge trailer loading looks easy, but proved difficult

The Alkali Lake Ranch team took second place in the trailer loading event but managed to hold onto the Overall title for another year in the Williams Lake Stampede Ranch Challenge.

The Stampede Ranch Challenge task of loading up cattle into a trailer looks like it should be rather easy and not too time consuming.

Just separate two same-numbered animals from the bunch, herd them to the horse trailer, get them in it and close the trailer gate to stop time.

On Sunday, June 30 in the Stampede ranch competition that chore was wrought with difficulty and most of the competitors had a very trying time completing that job.

It wasn’t too hard to get them to the trailer in most instances, but getting them in it and keeping them there was an exercise in frustration.

Although the Alkali Lake Ranch team of Brad Rymer, Corben Clarkson, and Willee Twan finished this event  in second place after two go-rounds, the cowboys accumulated the highest total points in the five events that comprise the WL Stampede Ranch Challenge competition, allowing them to retain the title of Overall Ranch Challenge champions, once again for 2013.

The Johnny Sam Ranch team of Darren Sulin, Dale Sulin and Ted Sam won the trailer loading event (the Alkali crew was second), but they finished in second place, behind Alkali Lake Ranch in the race for the overall title and the prize money and belt buckles that go with the win.
