A wildfire northwest of Puntzi Lake in the Chilcotin is now estimated to be 2

The wildfire burning northwest of Puntzi Lake is now 80 per cent guarded, the Cariboo Fire Centre confirmed Friday afternoon.

"That means around 80 per cent of the fire is machine or hand-guarded," said fire information officer Kelsey Winter. "The fire is still approximately 1,200 hectares in size, but we are hoping to have a better map of the fire by tomorrow."

The RCMP and the office of the Fire Commissioner were on site Thursday and will have more information about the fire to the Cariboo Regional District as soon as possible, Winter said.

The evacuation order and alert for the area remains in effect.

Tsi Del Del (Redstone) Chief Percy Guichon said the wildfire is about 10 kilometres from his community and that two of his community's elders have property right on Puntzi Lake.

"We still haven't heard whether their home has been burnt or not," Guichon said.
