Puntzi Lake fire now 30 per cent contained

As of Sunday morning, the Puntzi Lake fire was 30 per cent contained.

The Puntzi Lake wildfire is now 30 per cent contained on the southwest flank, said Kelsey Winter, information officer with the Cariboo Fire Centre Sunday morning.

It is still estimated at 7,000 hectares, but overnight the fire did not grow.

While it poured overnight in the Williams Lake area, only two millimetres of rain fell in the Puntzi Lake area.

"There is a forecast for rain today for five millimetres of rain so we are hopeful we will get it this afternoon," Winter said.

Meanwhile, the Bald Mountain Fire south of Riske Creek continues to be an estimated 640 hectares. The CFC is hoping to have containment numbers for it later today.

Residents are reminded to register for the Cariboo Chilcotin Emergency Notification System by visiting the CRD website at cariboord.ca.

An emergency social services centre continues to operate at the CRD board office at 180D Third Avenue North in Williams Lake. The public information line is 250-398-5117.
