Williams Lake residents will have the opportunity to weigh in on a proposed zoning amendment for cannabis production and distribution.
A public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at city hall.

The purpose of the proposed bylaw is to allow storefront retail cannabis uses in certain zones as specified in the bylaw and allow cannabis production and distribution facilities in conjunction with existing heavy industrial uses in a newly created North-end Cannabis and Heavy Industrial (M-4) Zone.
The City has received inquiries from multiple cannabis retail proponents and anticipates receiving in excess of 18 retail applications, with up to five applications from each of two ownership groups. At maximum, six retail license applications will be supported in the City when zoning separations are applied, noted Leah Hartley, director of development services in a report to council.
